And now for something completely different…log/story

One hazard to what I’m doing here is the chance of opening old wounds.  I managed to do that last night when I found not-so-pleasant reminders of how Nifty’s player and I went our separate ways.  It was almost nine years ago that we last spoke to each other.  I shouldn’t be surprised by how much it still hurts… we had been best friends, and it didn’t end well.

So I’m not much in the mood to post about Brenna.  Instead, I want to post a couple things I’ve come across which really brought a smile to my face when I found them.  Some were completely random events, and I’ll probably add to this as I find anything new.

T’yre

First, I have a story I wrote about T’yre.  As I’ve said earlier, he was my “old man” and wizard/scholar/alchemist/herbalist.  Brenna employed him for quite a long time, and he eventually inherited pretty much everything she owned when she moved on in life.  At the end of my UO time, T’yre took Anne under his wing to help with her impending madness and death.  He ended up back at the Lycaeum (which I always hated spelling!) as a professor for herbalism.  I don’t think I ever identified where T’yre grew up, but he had spent many years studying in Moonglow and at the Mage Tower along the shoreline.  By the time I came into the game, the actual members of the Mage Tower were either gone or scattered.  So I hope they didn’t mind me writing this about T’yre visiting the place.  I wrote it on a whim, just trying to flesh out his character a bit more.

The Mage Tower (story)

Also to go along with T’yre, and to give you a taste for how I usually played him in his not-so-serious moments, I found this log.  The Silver League members decided to run a small merchant caravan once in late March or early April 2001.  We made stops in Yew, Winterfell Township, and Vesper.  This is from the stop in Winterfell – the log is really long, but believe me, the Yew and Vesper ones are worse!  *chuckles*  And this is a good illustration of T’yre’s personality.

I really enjoyed playing T’yre.  He didn’t get out as often as he should have, but we always had fun when we did.  *smiles*

Random Poetry

I’m jumping well ahead of anything I’ve posted here, since I’m going to talk about Elyriel.  But when I came across this in my logs, I had to smile and laugh for a while.  I’d completely forgotten about it.

While Elyriel was living in Trinsic, the Paladins held one of their tournaments.  As part of the festivities, they held a poetry contest, inviting the men in the crowd to compose poetry about any of the women.  The subject of the winner’s poem would be the Queen for the tournament.  There were several entries that day, all of them really good. Wraith (either her husband at this point, or soon to be) couldn’t attend, so Elly was just on her own.

I have no idea what possessed him, but Rexom Dartagnon decided that Elyriel deserved a poem too.  *grin*  They were friends after a lot of hours minding the city (he was a paladin and the city’s Justice, and she had been in the City Guard with Wraith for a time).  He shocked pretty much everyone – including me!  But it was just plain awesome.  🙂

=============================

Rexom Dartagnon: *clears throat*
Rexom Dartagnon: There once was a lady fair, and fair of face
Rexom Dartagnon: She captured the heart of a warrior-knight
Rexom Dartagnon: Known for her courage, bravery, and grace
Rexom Dartagnon: Such a match for Sinjin Wraith could only be right.
Rexom Dartagnon: Her name is Elyriel, and by this do I swear
Rexom Dartagnon: That I have seen her defend Trinsic to last breath’s end
Rexom Dartagnon: She is warm, generous, and caring
Rexom Dartagnon: No one could ask for a better friend
Rexom Dartagnon: Her martial skill and prowess are indeed mighty
Rexom Dartagnon: One of the quickest warrior’s the land’s e’er seen
Rexom Dartagnon: But it is of her wisdom and cleverness
Rexom Dartagnon: that should direct her to the throne of poetry Queen.
Rexom Dartagnon: Thank you.

You almost won too, Rexom!!  It turned out to be a really close vote.  *chuckles*

And a Not-So-Random Song

Elyriel and Wraith had the honor of attending Arwynn and Custennin’s wedding in May of 2001.  Elyriel had gotten to know Arwynn and her father, Tsa’drin K’sylir, while she lived in Winterfell.  Arwynn was one of Elyriel’s two “adopted” sisters (Sabrina was the other).  I’m really glad Elly attended this wedding.  She got to see a lot of old friends again.

Following the ceremony, Tsa’drin sang the couple this song as their wedding gift.  Just thought it was something nice to share.

=============================

Tsa’drin K’sylir: *clears throat in preparation to sing*
Tsa’drin K’sylir: *begins*
Tsa’drin K’sylir: she was in a flowery garden, when first she caught my eye
Tsa’drin K’sylir: and I just a marching soldier, she smiles as I passed by
Tsa’drin K’sylir: the flowers she held were fresh and fair
Tsa’drin K’sylir: her lips were full and glad
Tsa’drin K’sylir: and as I passed that shady bow
Tsa’drin K’sylir: these words to me she said
Tsa’drin K’sylir: last night we spoke of love, now we’re forced to part
Tsa’drin K’sylir: you leave to the sound of a marching drum
Tsa’drin K’sylir: and the beat of a lovers heart
Tsa’drin K’sylir: she was on the sand in the evening
Tsa’drin K’sylir: when next I saw my dear
Tsa’drin K’sylir: running barefoot by the water side
Tsa’drin K’sylir: she called as I drew near
Tsa’drin K’sylir: the sunlight glanced at the waters edge
Tsa’drin K’sylir: making fire of her lovely hair
Tsa’drin K’sylir: my young heart danced to her parting words
Tsa’drin K’sylir: that hung in the evening air
Tsa’drin K’sylir: last night we spoke of love
Tsa’drin K’sylir: now we’re forced to part
Tsa’drin K’sylir: you leave to the sound of the marching drum
Tsa’drin K’sylir: and the beat of a lovers heart
Tsa’drin K’sylir: she was on the docks next morning
Tsa’drin K’sylir: when warships came to sail
Tsa’drin K’sylir: and as we slipped our ropes away
Tsa’drin K’sylir: I watched it from the rail
Tsa’drin K’sylir: she threw me a rose, which fell between us
Tsa’drin K’sylir: it floated on the bay
Tsa’drin K’sylir: and as our ship rolled from the shore
Tsa’drin K’sylir: I heard her call and say
Tsa’drin K’sylir: last night we spoke of love
Tsa’drin K’sylir: now we’re forced to part
Tsa’drin K’sylir: you leave to the sound of a marching drum
Tsa’drin K’sylir: and the beat of a lovers heart
Tsa’drin K’sylir: now this soldiers life wont suit me
Tsa’drin K’sylir: sweet music is my trade
Tsa’drin K’sylir: I’d rather mount the harvest heart
Tsa’drin K’sylir: then pierce it with a blade
Tsa’drin K’sylir: let the time be short till I return
Tsa’drin K’sylir: to my home north of the sky
Tsa’drin K’sylir: and the loving girl who stole my heart
Tsa’drin K’sylir: with these words as I passed by
Tsa’drin K’sylir: last night we spoke of love
Tsa’drin K’sylir: now we’re forced to part
Tsa’drin K’sylir: you leave to the sound of a marching drum
Tsa’drin K’sylir: and the beat of a lovers heart
Tsa’drin K’sylir: *finishes and smiles*

My memories of UO will always be overshadowed by many unpleasant things that happened outside the game.  But I’m still glad I played.  I think that’s all I have to say for now.
