Brenna – *THE* Kyle Duskwalkerlog/story

Kyle Duskwalker quickly became a dominant figure in Brenna’s life after she met him, although it was chance that threw them together at all.  He happened to open the Unsung Heroes’ tavern next door to Brenna’s pre-SL guild’s headquarters, and I jumped at the chance to have Brenna introduce herself.  I’d been following some of his adventures through stories online and a few snippets from UO Stratics.  As a player, I figured it was a good opportunity to open the door into the roleplaying groups I knew were out there.

From the start, Brenna found Kyle fascinating.  He seemed to know everyone, as far as she was concerned, and the man certainly had a knack for being smack in the middle of some plotline at all times.  The things he seemed to be involved in made my head spin, and I don’t think Brenna could have kept up even if I played her 24×7 some weeks!  But it was a ton of fun to even watch, and Brenna played parts whenever it seemed appropriate.

Over time, the two actually developed a bit of a bond, and while most of it was never really coordinated, we ended up taking that in some really fun directions.  Kyle and Brenna formed with an empathic link, which played into several storylines on both sides.  Brenna got embroiled in the defense of Trinsic during the Minax war because of that link, and Kyle played a big part in trying to help Brenna after the war ended and she fell into less-than-friendly hands.

They also had three or four almost moments where their friendship could have evolved into something more.  But in the end, it actually turned out best that they didn’t go that way.  Kyle was on the move too much for Brenna to keep up as it was, and he ran through several romances over the time that she knew him.  So although they had a close friendship, we actually ended things with a twist.  I had introduced Kyle to Ivy Stormfront, a creation of mine from outside the Ultima universe.  I had brought her into UO as a plot element for Brenna and the League, and the overlap in Ivy’s skills and Kyle’s made introducing them a must.  Both had the ability to travel between worlds – Kyle between the shards of Sosaria, and Ivy pretty much any place she wanted to go.  Well, as time went on, the bonds between Kyle and Brenna got stranger and stranger, so I decided to throw him for a real loop.  Brenna got herself into a really bad place following the Minax wars, and with Ivy’s help, she left Catskills behind.  While attempting to bring her back, Kyle found out why Ivy had such an interest in Brenna and why the two always seemed to orbit each other.  Ivy revealed that Brenna was Kyle’s descendant, many times removed.  Ivy had been protecting Brenna as the last of the Duskwalker line by bringing her back to a time where she could be anonymous.  I almost hurt myself laughing when I tossed that out there.  I wish I had the text of the exact reaction, but basically the two looked at each other and said “… and we almost….!!”

After the worst of Brenna’s ordeals, things between her and Kyle quieted down a lot.  She had a new protector looking out for her in her husband Gorren, and Kyle had his hands full elsewhere, as always.  So the two went their separate ways for the most part.  But Brenna never would have been Brenna without him, and I thank his player with all my heart for letting me take part in the wild world he had crafted.
